Kavitha moved to the United States after getting married in 2003. But in 2006, she returned to India to help her father in politics. In 2014, Telangana became a new state, and her father became its first Chief Minister because he led the movement for statehood.
Kavitha stayed in India to support him in the political sphere. Although she lost an election in 2019, she noticed people in Telangana loved their culture, especially indigenous art. This inspired her to start Telangana Jagruthi in 2007 which aimed to bring people together through their culture.

Allegations against her
Recently, Kavitha was arrested by ED Delhi after two years of scrutiny. The controversy began in 2022 when BJP leaders in New Delhi accused her of involvement in an alleged liquor policy scam.
The accusations arose during a period when the BJP was seeking to gain ground in Telangana, where it faced resistance from the BRS. However, as the elections approached, the BJP’s momentum was diminished and the Congress took advantage of anti-incumbency sentiment against the BRS.
Despite the allegations, Kavitha has refused any wrongdoing regarding the liquor scam. In an interview with The Indian Express, she denied her involvement in the alleged scam and said the following words:
“I had no role in it. They have made sweeping allegations and put the burden of proof on me … But we are fighting it. We are talking about state excesses and the misuse of agencies.”
