Josh Shapiro is an American lawyer and politician who became the 48th governor of Pennsylvania in 2023. Before that, he was Pennsylvania’s attorney general from 2017 to 2023 and served on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party and worked as an adviser to U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli before entering politics.

In 2004, Josh was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and served until 2012. He then joined the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners and became chairman. In 2015, he was also named head of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

As attorney general, he led a major investigation into child abuse by Catholic priests and helped secure $1 billion for Pennsylvania from a national opioid settlement. Shapiro has received criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. For example, progressives have disagreed with some of his policies, like support for Israel and school vouchers, while conservatives have criticized his strict handling of COVID-19 rules.

On April 13, 2025, someone set fire to the Governor’s Residence. Josh, his family, and another family who had joined them the night before for a Passover Seder were all inside. Everyone got out safely, but the fire caused serious damage to the southern part of the building. Later that day, police arrested 38-year-old Cody Allen Balmer from Penbrook, Pennsylvania. He was charged with terrorism, attempted murder, arson, and assault. 1wikipedia
