Liz Cheney is an American attorney and former politician representing Wyoming in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. She was a high-ranking House Republican leader from 2019 to 2021 but became widely known for opposing former President Donald Trump. Currently, she works as a professor at the University of Virginia.
In 2009, she co-founded Keep America Safe, a group that strongly opposed President Barack Obama’s national security policies, despite its tactics being criticized. She briefly ran for the U.S. Senate in 2014 before dropping out, and in 2016, she was elected to the House seat her father once held.
Liz voted to impeach Trump after the January 6 Capitol attack, which led to efforts by pro-Trump Republicans to remove her from party leadership. Later, she joined and served as vice chair on the House committee investigating the Capitol attack, which resulted in her losing support from Wyoming’s Republican Party. Cheney has expressed a desire to help reshape the Republican Party and endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election. 1detroitchamber
