Leon Harris is an American journalist and newscaster with NBC-owned-and-operated WRC-TV in Washington. He was formerly anchored at CNN headquarters in Atlanta and at Washington, ABC affiliate WJLA-TV.
In 2013, Harris pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Montgomery County, Maryland, and served six months of probation. In January 2022, he was arrested again for a DUI after a crash. After a brief absence, he returned to work in March. In June 2022, he was sentenced to one year in jail (with all but 10 days suspended), three years of probation, and the requirement to use an interlock device on his car.

Leon began his career in the early 1980s as an unpaid intern at CNN while finishing college. After graduating in 1983, he joined CNN as a video journalist and later became an assistant director in the satellite department, managing international and domestic satellite coverage for major events like the Persian Gulf War and presidential trips.
In 1991, Harris auditioned for an anchor role and became a full-time anchor. During his time at CNN, he earned several Emmy Awards for covering events like the 2000 presidential election, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the 9/11 attacks. However, as CNN shifted its lineup, Harris felt out of place and eventually left, with his final role being co-anchor of CNN Live Today.
