Travis Hunter is an American football player for the Colorado Buffaloes, who plays both cornerback and wide receiver. In 2024, he won the Heisman Trophy and became the first college football player to win the Chuck Bednarik and Fred Biletnikoff Awards. Before joining Colorado, he played for the Jackson State Tigers and was the highest-rated recruit to choose an FCS school.

Travis Hunter Jr. grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, and later moved to Georgia in eighth grade. He attended Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, where he played cornerback and wide receiver.

As a sophomore, he led his county with seven interceptions and had 49 catches for 919 yards and 12 touchdowns. In his junior year, he caught 137 passes for 1,746 yards and 24 touchdowns, earning the MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year award and setting county records for catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

During his senior year, despite missing five games due to an ankle injury, he still recorded 76 catches for 1,128 yards and 10 touchdowns. In Jackson State

Travis started his college football career at Jackson State in 2022. During the spring game, which was the first nationally televised HBCU spring game, he scored two touchdowns and made two interceptions.

In his first game against Florida A&M, he didn’t record any stats but suffered an injury that kept him out for five games. Returning in Week 7, he made four catches for 24 yards. By Week 10, he scored his first college touchdown and recorded his first interception against Alabama A&M. He added another touchdown and interception in Week 11 against Alcorn State.

In the 2022 Celebration Bowl, Hunter had four catches for 47 yards and scored two touchdowns. In his freshman season, he played seven games, recording 19 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown. On offense, he made 18 catches for 188 yards and four touchdowns.

In Colorado

In 2023, Travis followed his coach to the University of Colorado. In his first game at the FBS level, he played 147 snaps on offense and defense, making 11 catches for 119 yards, three tackles, and an interception in a win over TCU.

After an injury in Week 3 against Colorado State, he missed three games but returned in Week 7 to record a season-high 13 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns against Stanford. Hunter also made two interceptions against UCLA in Week 8 and scored touchdowns in games against Oregon State, Washington State, and Utah.

By the end of the season, Hunter had 57 catches for 721 yards and five touchdowns on offense. On defense, he recorded 30 tackles and three interceptions. He played over 1,000 snaps across offense, defense, and special teams. He was named a Consensus All-American, second-team All-PAC-12, and won the Paul Hornung Award.

2024 Season

In 2024, Hunter began the season with seven catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns against North Dakota State. Later, in a win over Baylor, he forced a game-winning fumble in overtime and his performance throughout the season earned him the Heisman Trophy.

Travis was ranked the number one recruit by 247Sports.com and Rivals.com and number two by ESPN. He received a scholarship offer from Florida State in 2019 and committed to them in March 2020 after visiting the school. However, on December 15, 2021, Hunter changed his commitment to Jackson State. This made him the first five-star recruit to sign with an HBCU or FCS school. 4wikipedia
