Jahmyr went to Dalton High School, ran for 897 yards, and scored 10 touchdowns. In his junior year, he rushed for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns. During his senior year, he led the state with 2,554 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns, which earned him first-team all-state honors, Georgia 6-A Offensive Player of the Year in 2020, and a spot on Sports Illustrated’s first-team All-American list.

Gibbs was also selected to play in the 2020 All-American Bowl. He ended his high school career with 4,882 rushing yards and 70 touchdowns. Initially, he was committed to Georgia Tech after his junior year and turned down offers from Michigan, Texas A&M, and North Carolina. ²

Jahmyr made his college debut for Georgia Tech in the game against UCF. He started with a 75-yard kickoff return and ended the game with 219 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns and earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors.

By the end of the season, he had 460 rushing yards, 303 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns. He also returned kicks for 205 yards and was named honorable mention All-ACC as a return specialist.

In 2022, Gibbs transferred to the University of Alabama. In October, he ran for 154 yards against Texas A&M. He finished the season with 926 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 444 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

Jahmyr made his NFL debut in 2023 during the season opener, where he rushed for 42 yards and caught two more in the Lions’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He scored his first touchdown on a 21-yard run against the Baltimore Ravens. In the next game against the Las Vegas Raiders, he rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown, along with five receptions for 37 yards.

Gibbs had his first multi-touchdown game against the Los Angeles Chargers, rushing for 77 yards and two touchdowns and adding three receptions for 35 yards. In the next game against the Broncos, he rushed for 100 yards and scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown in the Lions’ victory.

Jahmyr finished his rookie season with 945 rushing yards, ten rushing touchdowns, 316 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown in 15 games. He was chosen as a Pro Bowl Alternate and named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. He also scored a rushing touchdown in all three of the Lions’ postseason games. ³
