Tony Buzbee earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. After college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he achieved the highest leadership score in officer training. As an infantry officer, he served in the Persian Gulf and Somalia, leading special operations units. Later, he became a Recon officer, commanding a Recon Company in the First Marine Regiment and earning top leadership awards. Buzbee reached the rank of Captain and received the Navy Commendation Medal for his service.

After leaving the Marines, Buzbee attended the University of Houston Law Center. He served as Managing Editor of the Houston Law Review was elected Class Captain, and won state and regional mock trial championships.
