Life As a Brahmachari
Maharaj Ji’s spiritual journey began with his initiation into lifelong celibacy, which is known as Naishtik Brahmacharya. He was then named AnandSwaroop Brahmachari and later embraced the path of Sannyasa. After accepting the Mahavakya, he became known as Swami Anandashram.
He started living a life of total renunciation in Varanasi and strictly adhered to principles that were beyond physical consciousness. He spent his days there and followed a simple routine. He bathed in the Ganges three times daily, meditated, and worshipped Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga at Tulsi Ghat.
He ate only once a day and didn’t beg for food. Even in cold winters, he continued his routine of bathing thrice daily in the Ganges and fasting for days on end. Instead of praying, he sat for 10-15 minutes; if the food was offered during that time, he ate it, otherwise, he drank water from the Ganges.
Maharaj Ji tolerated many days of hunger as part of his ascetic life. Maharaj Ji chose a life of total dedication to spirituality. He first became a celibate monk called AnandSwaroop Brahmchari, then later embraced monkhood fully, and became Swami Anandashram.
His unwavering devotion to spiritual practice earned him the blessings of Lord Shiva and marked his journey towards enlightenment. Maharaj Ji has no wife because he didn’t get married.3vrindavanrasmahimaÂ
The story behind devotion to Radha Rani
The story of Premanand Maharaj Ji’s journey to Vrindavan after becoming a Sanyasi is quite remarkable. One day, an unknown saint visited Maharaj Ji and invited him to a special event called Shri Chaitanya Leela during the day and Raasleela at night at Shri Hanumat Dham University, where Maharaj Ji was included as a guest.
Initially, Maharaj Ji hesitated, but after much persuasion from the saint, he agreed to attend. He enjoyed the event which lasted for about a month. After the event ended, he wanted to see Raasleela again.
He approached the same saint who had invited him and offered to serve him in exchange for being taken to see Raasleela. The saint suggested that Maharaj Ji should come to Vrindavan, where he could witness Raasleela daily. This idea sparked a desire in his heart to visit Vrindavan.
He felt inspired to come to Vrindavan to seek the blessings of Radharani and Shri Krishna and deepen his connection with God. After arriving in Vrindavan, Maharaj Ji immersed himself in devotion and eventually joined the Radha Vallabh Sampraday, under the guidance of his guru, Bade Maharaj Ji of Vrindavan. 4bhajankeval
