The Prayag Kumbh Mela of 2025 also called the 2025 Maha Kumbh, is being held from January 13 to February 26, 2025, at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This grand event, occurring once every 144 years, will last 44 days and is expected to attract around 400 million visitors.
In Hinduism, the Kumbh Mela is a major event held every 12 years at four locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. During this Mela, special Royal Baths (Shahi Snans) will take place on January 13, 14, and 29, as well as February 3, 12, and 26, coinciding with important Hindu dates like Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, and Maha Shivaratri.
Significance of Mahakumbh
The Prayag MahaKumbh Mela represents the triumph of gods over demons. In 2025, it began on January 13 and will end on February 26. This event is the world’s largest peaceful gathering, attracting millions of devotees. People take holy dips in the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, believing it purifies the soul and leads to liberation (Moksha).
The Prayag Maha Kumbh of 2025 is expected to draw 400 million visitors, including dignitaries from countries like the United States, Israel, and France.

Maintainance of Infrastructure & Hygiene
The Uttar Pradesh government has spent over ₹70 billion to improve infrastructure and sanitation for the Prayag Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Advanced fire-fighting vehicles will be available for safety, and 500 Ganga Praharis will work to keep the river clean. Out of 83 planned projects costing ₹1,428.68 crore, 47 were completed by November 15, and the rest are nearing completion.
Tourists and pilgrims will get help from artificial intelligence tools, chatbots, and the “Mahakumbh Mela 2025” app, which shows important locations like ghats and temples. Indian Railways is also adding extra coaches to key trains, like the Prayagraj Express and Lucknow Mail, to handle the large number of visitors.
The Prayag MahaKumbh 2025 Mela will maintain high cleaning standards with one sweeper for every 10 toilets and a supervisor for every 10 sweepers. Around 10,000 sanitation workers have been hired to keep the area clean.
Under the Swachh Kumbh initiative, about 150,000 toilets and urinals have been set up in the Mela area. A compact manual sweeping machine will clean paved ghats, footpaths, roads, and public spaces. Additionally, a QR code system will monitor the cleanliness of the toilets. 1wikipedia
