Rachin Ravindra’s Career Journey

Rachin began his cricket journey after being influenced by Sachin Tendulkar since childhood. He was part of New Zealand’s squads for the 2016 and 2018 Under-19 World Cups. After the 2018 tournament, the ICC named him one of the rising stars. In June 2018, he got a contract with Wellington for the 2018–19 season.

Rachin made his List A debut for New Zealand A against Pakistan A in October 2018 and his first-class debut later that month. In November 2019, he scored his first List-A century for Wellington against Auckland, and in March 2020, he scored his first first-class century.

In June 2020, he got another contract with Wellington for the 2020–21 season. He was named in the New Zealand A team for practice matches against the West Indies and scored a century in the first match.

In April 2021, Rachin was named in New Zealand’s Test squad for their series against England and the ICC World Test Championship final. In August, he was named in the T20I squad for the tour of Bangladesh and the ODI squad for the tour of Pakistan. He made his T20I debut in September 2021, against Bangladesh.

In June 2022, he signed with Durham County Cricket Club and scored a century on his debut, which he converted into a double century. He made his ODI debut on March 25, 2023, against Sri Lanka.

In the 2023 World Cup, Rachin scored three centuries and 578 runs, ending the year with 820 ODI runs and winning the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award. In February 2024, he scored his maiden Test century, during South Africa’s tour of New Zealand.

For the 2023 World Cup, Rachin was initially not in the final squad but was called up to replace the injured Michael Bracewell and he made his maiden ODI century in the opening match against England. He became the youngest New Zealand player to score a World Cup century and the first New Zealander to score three centuries in a single World Cup.
