P. V. Sindhu attended Auxilium High School and St. Ann’s College for Women. Inspired by Pullela Gopichand, the 2001 All England Open Badminton Champion, Sindhu chose badminton over volleyball and started playing at the age of eight.

She began her training under Mehboob Ali at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad and later joined Gopichand’s Badminton Academy.

Sindhu won several titles in the under-10 and under-13 categories. She later trained with South Korean coach Park Tae-sang and is currently coached by Agus Dwi Santoso, with Prakash Padukone as her mentor.
