Freddie Freeman is a Canadian-American baseball player who plays first base for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB). He spent 12 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, where he made his MLB debut in 2010 and helped the team win the World Series in 2021 against the Houston Astros.

Freddie is an eight-time All-Star and has won several awards, including the Gold Glove in 2018 and the Silver Slugger in 2019, 2020, and 2021. He was named the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 2020. After becoming a free agent, Freeman signed a six-year, $162 million deal with the Dodgers. Freddie Freeman started practicing baseball at age six with older Little League players in Orange, California. By age seven, he was on a team with nine-year-olds, and at nine, he was placed with 12-year-olds.

Freeman attended El Modena High School, where he played as a third baseman and pitcher. As a senior in 2007, he achieved a .417 batting average and a 6–1 record as a pitcher, which earned him the title of Player of the Year from the Orange County Register. In high school, Freddie played for the U.S. national team in the 2005 World Youth Baseball Championship in Mexico, where they won the silver medal. Although he has U.S. citizenship, Freeman chose to represent Canada, his parents’ home country, in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Freeman played for Canada again in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and hit .200 in 10 at-bats, with two hits and one walk. Canada placed third in their pool, behind the U.S. and Mexico, and secured a spot in the next tournament.

The Atlanta Braves picked Freddie in the second round of the 2007 MLB draft, 78th overall. He signed with the team for $409,500 and skipped his college scholarship. Freeman began his career with the Gulf Coast Braves in 2007, then moved to the Rome Braves in 2008. The Braves manager has called Freeman “my rock” and says he represents everything the Braves stand for.

By 2009, Freddie Freeman was ranked the Braves’ fifth-best prospect by Baseball America. He started that season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and was promoted mid-season to the Mississippi Braves. Baseball America ranked him as the 11th-best prospect in their mid-season list, but he ended the year with a wrist injury. Freeman played in the Arizona Fall League with the Peoria Saguaros after the season, then started 2010 with the Gwinnett Braves.

Los Angeles Dodgers

After leaving the Atlanta Braves, Freddie returned to Southern California and signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in March 2022.

Freeman debuted with the Dodgers on April 8, going 1-for-3 with a walk. Later in April, he was awarded his 2021 Silver Slugger in a ceremony attended by Braves staff before hitting his first Dodger home run against his former team. In June, Freeman received his World Series ring, and in July, he was named an All-Star. Freeman led the league in hits and doubles with a .325 average, 21 home runs, and 100 RBIs.

In May Freeman hit his 300th career home run, followed by his 2,000th career hit in June. He became a National League All-Star starter for the third straight year and broke the Dodgers’ record for doubles in a season with 53. He finished with a .331 average, 211 hits, 29 home runs, and 59 doubles, committing only one error for a .999 fielding percentage.

Freeman hit two grand slams, one in May and another in July, finishing the season with a .282 average, 22 home runs, and 89 RBIs. Despite an ankle injury, Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series against the Yankees, securing a 6-3 win for the Dodgers. 5wikipedia
