Jack Sawyer attended Pickerington High School North, where he played basketball and football. He initially joined the varsity football team as a backup tight end and later switched to defensive end, and finished his first season with 58 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Jack was rated as a five-star recruit and the top prospect in the 2021 class by ESPN, he committed to play football at Ohio State after his sophomore year, choosing the Buckeyes over offers from schools like Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Oklahoma.

During his junior year, he completed 79 passes for 1,056 yards and nine touchdowns, rushed for 386 yards with six touchdowns, and was named the Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division Defensive Player of the Year, recording 13.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss.

Jack decided not to play in his senior football season because of uncertainties related to COVID-19. He started his college football journey at Ohio State, enrolling a semester early. In 2022, he helped the team win the Rose Bowl but was ejected from the game for targeting quarterback Cameron Rising.

During his senior season, Jack made headlines after a post-game incident after Ohio State’s 13-10 loss to Michigan. He attempted to take a flag that Michigan players had planted on Ohio State’s home field logo and had to be held back from confronting them.

In the 2025 Cotton Bowl, Jack made a game-changing play by returning a fumble for a touchdown in the fourth quarter after sacking Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.
