Kim Tae-hyung is a South Korean singer and songwriter, best known as V from the world-famous boy band BTS. Since BTS’s debut in 2013, V has released three solo tracks with the group: “Stigma” (2016), “Singularity” (2018), and “Inner Child” (2020), all of which charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart.
Outside of BTS, V began acting in 2016 in the TV series Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth and contributed a song, “It’s You,” to its soundtrack. Before BTS’s debut, V was kept as a “secret member” to surprise fans, which made him feel lonely and uncertain, as he worried he might be excluded from the lineup. On June 13, 2013, he officially debuted with BTS on Mnet’s M Countdown with their song “No More Dream” from the album 2 Cool 4 Skool.
In 2015, V co-wrote and produced his first BTS song, “Hold Me Tight,” and also helped write “Fun Boyz.” His melody was used in “Run” on their The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2 album. He later co-wrote and composed his first solo song, “Stigma,” for BTS’s Wings album in 2016.

In 2022, V joined the Disney+ show In the Soop: Friendcation, and in 2023, he appeared in the Prime Video series Jinny’s Kitchen. He became a brand ambassador for luxury brands like Celine and Cartier and released his debut solo album, Layover, on September 8, 2023.
Layover set records for the highest first-week sales by a K-pop solo artist with 2.1 million copies and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, tying V with his BTS bandmates as the highest-charting Korean solo artist.
Regarding his military service, it was announced that V, along with RM, Jimin, and Jungkook, had officially enlisted on December 11.
