Luana Alonso is a retired Paraguayan swimmer who competed in the women’s 100-metre butterfly event of the 2020 Summer Olympics and holds multiple Paraguayan records in the butterfly discipline. Luana first represented Paraguay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when she was just 17 years old. The 2024 Paris Olympics was her second Olympic appearance, where she competed in the Women’s 100m Butterfly but was eliminated due to her misbehavior.

Luana Alonso’s Career Controversy

Luana was kicked out of the Paris 2024 Olympics’ athlete village after visiting Disneyland in Paris, causing a lot of controversy. She left after a night out and didn’t support her teammates, which led to her early dismissal, even though she had planned to stay until the end of the Olympics.

Athletes are expected to stay focused and support their team, so her absence was seen as a violation of this expectation, leading to her dismissal. The Paraguayan Olympic Committee said her presence was creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay and thanked her for leaving voluntarily.

A similar issue happened with Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira and her partner Gabriel Santos, who also faced consequences for leaving their athlete village. Luana has announced her retirement from competitive swimming, stating that the decision was made before the Olympics and not influenced by her experience there. ²
