Barrera embarked on her professional career by appearing as Julieta in the Mexican production of “Romeo y Julieta.” She continued to gain experience by playing Ariel in a regional production of “Footloose” before moving to New York for college. In 2009, she was accepted into the Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21) at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.
